be crazy. get a show. ?

Remember that big NewYork mag article celebrating Dash Snow and his boy gang? Well it looks like someone liked their party-animal, attention grabbing, law breaking, crude behavior enough to give them a show. Does it really pay to be a crazy artist?....well, it looks like maybe their appeal might be fading based on this lovely review.
I like this quote by Abraham Orden in artnews:
"...The graffiti on the walls is indeed original -- if you limit the meaning of the term to 'from the first event,' and don’t expect it to mean 'capable of or given to thinking or acting in an independent, creative, or individual manner.' With all the pictures of genitalia and the word "fuck" repeatedly spray-painted across the walls, a spectacle that’s meant to represent unchecked freedom becomes a representation of tedium and lack of originality. Dan & Dash have reached what seems to be an apex of stupidity and nihilism. Congratulations..."

you two sound like a couple of old wives of older rebublican congressmen.

seems you've pulled an audience to be proud of anne, the posts keep coming and with such insight. openminded challenging art bloggers and your occasional conservative christian.

pullleeeze, anonymous. I agree with the first two.

this is sh*t being passed off as trendy, hip, cutting edge. It is none of the above, just something riding on the coattails of truly innovative graffitists and writers

not really sick just the base line for the male ego
it all seems to revolve around the dick , i get this and really this attitude is pervasive in all media , we are just to dumb to see that we are being manipulated by grown up boys who still think the most important part of life is the 6 - 8 inches of skin between their legs
so god bless the child or children if they can pass this off and make a buck , because i am sure that with this raw talent , or major ego they will go far

meh.Looks kinda fun. I would like to to dip my head in the mess and throw anne in it. The work would seem to fit perfectly in a town like Detroit. It think its great. To those of you who are turned off, go paint some pictures of flowers and puppies to calm down.

at the risk of sounding REALLY bitter, no one has commented on the mention in the New York article that Dash Snow is a member of the Menil family (Schlumberger $) - i.e. this is the haut bourgeoisie playing artiste (although there are probably plenty of those in the world, now & before). my advice for anyone trying to make it is start w/ a private income of some sort - it will make it a lot easier in this world.

I read the earlier article, and was aware of the source of his money. To me, this guy is the art world version of Paris Hilton.

This is not to say that a person with money cannot be a worthy artist. One can go into art history and see lots of artists with inherited wealth who made important critical statements.

Americans are too fucking passive!

American Artists need to be active!

this guy isn't active. he's rich boy gone bad (read bohemian: read artist) -- and all on his trust fund. and it isn't that it's all so juvenile and dumb boy, so much as it's all been done before and better by others (check out Sean Landers early and recent stuff, and Kaprov).

it's like music. everything is recycled at an accelerated rate... so that nobody cares or remembers last month's flavor.

when i heard the first few bars of animal collective, i said john lennon. and my musician friend said, yeah, it took me a month to figure it out... but the rest of my band doesn't get it.

off topic but not more-so than the rest of this thread, kartman, but you didn't think "pet sounds" before "john lennon" when you heard animal collective?

off topic, i haven't heard animal collective but pet sounds is the best rock/pop album of all time

this is good dialog though, this work is recycled and rather meaningless and its good to recognize this a nd talk about it instead of dismissing it

your work is rather recycled and rather meaningless. I dont know your work, so i would know. I think the core issue is notarity, and that fact that you suck, i can support that, just as you can support saying the work is "recycled and rather meaningless" and denying that as dismissive. Its great work when there is debate and when people try to shun it. Rats eat your toes.

hey second anonymous try writing when you're not drunk or high, i said the dialog is good, shitbag

m.

dialog is good , debate doesn't necesarrily mean anything, people will debate anything, toothpaste, colors, shit , anything, thats a weak argument.
