Ellen Phelan at Susan Hilberry Gallery, Opening Friday May 19 from 6 - 8 pm

Press Release: An exhibition of paintings and photographs by Ellen Phelan The exhibition will include two installations of photographs - Family/Romance and Leaving Detroit (Over & Over) - composed of digitally altered family snapshots. The watercolors and oil paint ings are based on those photographs. Filtered through a veil of smoke and haze, they explore memory and identity and reveal a haunting intimacy.
Ellen Phelan was born in Detroit , Michigan in 1943 and graduated from Wayne State University. She lives and works in New York City and Westport , New York.
