Slow night...

It was a slow night at the Motor City Brewing Company tonight. I guess the crowds only come out when it is an a known artist. The last two weeks have been empty but let's hope that next week is packed! This week was Tim Day. I have a tough time with photography...sometimes I just can't get into it.

I can't get into much photography either. I dunno...it seems so effortless. But then again so does minimalist painting. So I'm torn.

Don't forget about the Holiday show at DAM. I'm in that. You should check it out.

It's pretty hard to "get into photography" when this is what's getting put up in Detroit. Look up Tim Day's web page and you'll see what I mean. He has no vision, he has nothing to say, but it looks like he's connected to enough local scenesters to get him an ocassional showing in a bar.

It galls me when painters say that they don't "get" photography. They don't get it because it's not part of what they've been taught. Anyone seeking an education in fine art photography is required to study the history of art, but a person studying art is not necessarily exposed to photography. It has a history of it's own, with its own conventions and traditions, but if a person isn't aware of that they'll just assume that this dreck is representative of the genre.

Steiglitz would be turning in his grave if he saw this.

I dont know if id get as crazy to say photography is "effortless".

I can see what D'arts is talking about. I am a painter and a photographer - and while I never tire of looking at paintings, rarely am I captivated by photographs. Why do I end up addicted to creating photographs then ? HellifIknow.

Favorite photographer: Astrid Kirchherr..
