Metalized!

What better way to end the night of gallery hopping than with the conclusion of my escalading joke of becoming "metalized". The metalization ended in Detroit: first at Center Gallery and finally at DAM.  I was most interested in the DAM show turn out because of the current problems with the establishment. DAM was packed primarily because of the Detroit Brothers and Finch custom motorcycles.  The gallery lacked its typical collector crowd and instead had a different breed of gear heads and steel artists.  I think that another theme based show was not a good direction.  I have seen too many "gimmick" shows at DAM - the kind of shows that get attention but don't make for a solid gallery foundation to attract art buyers. With a lot of work the gallery can turn things around, but the only question is is it too late?

When will we (artists) stand up and make our voice heard that there too few places to show? What I have heard from older Detroit artists is that Detroit is at an all time low point when it comes to places to show.  There used to be many more places for emerging artists...but the problem is that we (young) artists don't know that. Something needs to be done....are you willing to come together?
