CAID opening

Finally!  Just when I thought that the the Detroit art scene was in trouble, CAID had a refreshing opening featuring only Detroit artists. The only parameter was that the piece had to be 8.5 x 11. The artists ranged from mid career artists like Fabio Fernandez and Chido Johnson to many emerging artists like Scott Hocking, Kristin Beaver, Jessica Erickson, and Mathew Blake. I have to say it was an encouraging opening for CAID: many pieces SOLD! It was a first for seeing so many red dots, granted most of the works were priced around the $150-$350 price range. I still think the gallery needs to address important issues like: the unsafe neighborhood, street bums that constantly circle the gallery, having a gallery on a one-way street, and maybe consider a better sign to make the gallery seen from the street.  Now I understand that the gallery will be around another year at least so I hope that CAID can make it's visitors feel comforted in their safely when attending the openings.  Overall...thumbs up to the Biennial and I hope everyone takes a trip downtown to see what Detroit artists have brewing!

That looks like an awesome show. I'll have to go check it out. I was going to enter work into it, but I completley forgot about it.
