district arts look back

How can you tell summer is finally here? Besides the sense of sticky humidity and hot rays, the summer also means that the gallery crawl has slowed down.  Openings are less frequent and it is typical that galleries show their "emerging talent".  Not to say that the shows are not up to pare, although it is common, but some galleries take more risks in the summer showing less established artists.  To me I understand the politics of galleries and that they are out to make sales and it is a good way to test the water to see if an artist is marketable.  But I think that galleries need to remember that sometimes artists need to be shown and given a chance more than one summer show.  It takes time for the collectors to come around.  All this said, District Arts offers smashing summer openings that offer a "fix" to all  you gallery hopping addicts!  The exhibit up is again another nice pairing: photorealist vs. ceramic sculptor.
