These boxes look so great! I am so proud to be a part of this art community. Thanks, Ann for putting my box on the blog!
gilda,
I hear matt lewis bought your piece! Man...I really wish I made it to the auction.
I emailed thanks to Matt because I was told he bought my box. I wasnt at the DAM for the show because I was ill, which was really disappointing!
so many great boxes, but then there were others that seemed to miss the point (if there was a point), like Nowak's... which seems to scream "look, i only know how to do this one type of portrait, but i stuck a box to it so technically I followed the directions".
i was actually amazed by all the boxes that were well done, i thought it was a great show, there was of course a lot of crap there too. it was nice to see a mix and good to see so many friends, teachers, fellow artists etc.
Ann - if it wasn't for you...we'd all be a little more disconnected. So, as we celebrate this Box show and our past connections - we also celebrate new connections. Thank you...
yeah, what was with craig's piece? It was a typical painting of his with a box awkwardly put into it without rhyme or reason. The trouble with early success is that you become scared to stray away from your "selling style" and experiment. It can make for one long boring career.
My favorites were Susan Goethel Campbell and Michelle Perron's "boxes"!

you mean to say that Nowak sells that shit?
I saw the box on the forehead being just like the little picture of Diego Rivera on the forehead of Frida Kahlo in one of her paintings.
Her love, her revered Diego, her memorie of him. Maybe Nowak was comparing the memory of the Willis to that image
blah, blah, blah, why try to explain someone elses work?
Still boxed in. Bound by insecurity. In Detroit 95% of the conversation happens behind your back. I don't know if this makes for the best small-town art community or just something to keep some people occupied. No wonder they have to bring in New York Pay Dirt to interpret this city and culture. Detroit visual artists can't handle it.
