project refashion recap

Just because Detroit is a crumbling city under construction doesn't mean that it should inspire only "deconstructed" goods.  Now I say this quite aware that living in Detroit causes many artists to reflect and create a dialog with the city but when a trend erupts not everyone should slide by.  Detroit is a unique place.  Creativity, motivation, and originality is sometimes harshly judged because of the lack of outlets.  Detroit is off the artistic radar sometimes and finding enriching, creative events can be difficult in this city.  I am only beating around the bush because I don't like to judge too harshly but in comparison to other city's art events we are trailing.  It is not that we don't have creative folks here, it is just that it is loosely spread out with room for anything new and shocking to be fooling.  Coming back to the "deconstructed" fashion, I think that craftsmanship was hiding in clothing disguised as tattered seams and far-out ideas lacking knowledge of basic clothing design and fitting.  It was a well attended, lively show of local fashion designers that completed full collections and hopefully inspired onlookers of a new way of viewing clothing.
