Last look at miami...

I just wanted to share the last of the miami pictures. Miami seems like some distant, bizarro memory now! These are from the wynwood art district which feels like a combination of chelsea's art district mixed with a tropical ghetto. I predict that this area will only build up more and more. This is also a good place for artists to break into because it is still more low key than the ny art scene.

I agree - Maimai Basel always feels like a mirage that a totally incoherent wanderer creates in their addled mind whilst crawling across the sub Sahara with the sun high overhead beating down on them. And then just as one can almost make it out clearly, it dissapates into thin air, and you realize it wasn't real in the first place.

Ther's just too much 'attitude' and too strong an emphasis on an au courant, modish, voguish lifestyle sensibility and not enough thoughtful looking at and serious thinking about the art itself.

Hope you and a clan from Detroit can make it up to NYC for the Armory Fair in late February!

Best wishes for a healthy, peaceful, and productive New Year...

I like your term, "tropical ghetto". Miami certainly has room for artists who want to relocate and get opportunities they can't in bigger cities.
