nominations for michigan arts/culture

If you know of an individual or organization that has shown a true commitment to supporting the arts, we've got great news - the deadline to submit nominatations for the 2007 Governor's Awards for Arts & Culture has been extended!
Thanks to this extension, you now have until 4:00 pm on July 27 to send in your nomination(s) in any of the following categories:

Arts and Cultural Organization (large and small)
Arts Educator
Michigan Artist (all artistic disciplines are eligible - visual performing & applied)
Nonprofit Arts/Cultural Leader
Arts Education Organization
Civic Leader
Exemplary Business

Thanks for posting this, Ann.

I think that everyone should get involved with this, and nominate someone that they believe in, for the appropriate category. It may seem like a trivial thing for some, but the powers that be can look at the apathy surrounding this event if it is not received well and figure that people dont really care about the arts in this state......giving them reason to further cut funding to deserving arts organizations all over the state.

A few years ago I nominated an emerging artist for the Young Artist Award, and they got it! I felt really proud, and that young artist was thrilled with the recognition. I did notice that this go-round there is no Young Artist Award....they may be rotating that one, I dont know. But it made me feel good that I was able to make my voice known; that young artist was Senghor Reid, who has been showing steadily ever since, and is also making a name for himself as an arts educator.
