Luggage Store Gallery
Would you believe that this is one of the best galleries in sanfran? Luggage Store looks like a real "luggage store" from the busy, downtown street - an area of sanfran that reminds me more of ny soho area with tall financial buildings, name brand shopping stores and busy streets that even smelled of urine. The gallery was an excellent surprise and my favorite show in the city.
Once opening the door, a graffiti covered stairway leads you up towards the "white light".
The show featured: Mark Bradford, Mickalene Thomas, Titus Kaphar and Shinique Smith - a tightly curated show and a nice mix of more established artists and emerging.
Yes, we love those orange dots...Thomas (my favorite too) made out well and was the big seller with works priced at 10K,25K and 7.5K!
Mark Bradford
Shinique Smith - (check out her sculptures/installations) Her fabric works remind me of mike kelly's stuffed animal creations.
Mickalene Thomas....love, love her work! I just featured her about a month ago and it was great to see the work in person.
Titus Kaphar
I will have more posts on the sanfran art scene to come!

Great job reporting, Ann. I remember Shinique Smith's work from the FREQUENCY group show at the Studio Museum
Yeah, I had a blast in sanfran! Basically I love traveling and diving into a new city's culture/art scene....if this could only be my job...........oh, what a wonderful daydream!
Ann,
It could be. I mean, why not? If you really want it, then make it happen.
You might have to set your art aside for awhile though. Weigh your options. It might be worth it to pursue.
i'm glad you enjoyed the exhibition at the luggage store.
hopefully i/we will make it to detroit very soon; i have been wanting to come out there for many years, actually i have a "thing" about detroit...
thanks for including the show on your blog and i'll pass your link on to all the artists....
