Pittsburgh gallery crawl starting at...
Boy, did I luck out when it came to the right weekend to experience the Pittsburgh art scene! I may have been painted a slightly over saturated picture of the art scene because I happened to make it for the big quarterly art crawl downtown. Downtown was swarmed with artists, art enthusiasts, and patrons for a one night party of great art, music and drinks. (I guess it helps when one of the money sponsors is a beer company.) The event was called "Static Free" - check out the website for more details. Wow...a city that nurtures local artists and finds support/backers to make such a great night happen! I thought I died and went to heaven!
Static Free:
What: A contemporary fine art event to showcase the best and most well renowned international and regional artists, whose works have been directly influenced by urban culture.
Why: To raise awareness of the influence of street culture on contemporary art as a whole and to demonstrate how street art has become repackaged and integrated into pop culture. From two dimensional paintings, prints, and digital works, to the design of three dimensional sculptures, installations, and exteriors, the street art genre has now integrated its visual language from our everyday environment into art, design, media, marketing and architecture.
These pictures are from Future Tenant Gallery. The gallery was packed shoulder to shoulder. The art was hung salon style to showcase many artists and a DJ spun records in the corner.
The art was very urban and for me a little hard to view because of the crowds of people. I would say that the art still had a student level quality but considering the huge space and energy - a nice show. The gallery across the street, SPACE was by far the best and I will post on that gallery next.

Thanks for the rave reviews of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust's Gallery Crawl. If you return to Pittsburgh, the next Crawls are 1/25, 4/25 and sometime in early July. Hope you'll visit Pittsburgh's Cultural District again soon!
