taurus burns & frank english

For the avid detroitarts blog readers you might be wondering if I have started to slack on the job, but rest assured that I am not asleep at the wheel: my laptop's motherboard decided to just "poof" - stop working! So...my baby is in the shop an hopefully coming home soon! I have managed to steal an old lady's laptop from her while she sips mochachinos at starbucks...ok...not really but I have a "loaner" for the night just to prove how faithfull I am to you blog readers!

taurus burns has some great paintings up at synergy gallery in berkley! I still am baffeled by how he manages to get such nice complimentary contrast in the shadows and in the flesh tones. No painter in detroit can do what he does, in terms of his color palette for figurative work. He somehow makes bright lime green and pale turquoise read as dark shadows. One thing that I know is that taurus pours his heart into his paintings and they usually contain very personal subject matter: he is a great story-teller.

These works are by detroit artist frank english. I have seen english's works in image form but in person they read much better. The remind me a bit of clint snider but more about nature/landscape than detroit ruins. I really like some of the small pieces on found and cast objects while the larger pieces, although very detailed, lose some of the precise quality and get a little busy with paint.

This piece sold even before the show opened...I hear that synergy is doing a good job of keeping up the sales! Congrats...let's keep this gallery going!!

Guess I'll say something before this disappears below.

To get beyond comparisons one much go out and see this show for themselves. Get there and open up and maybe slow down and see what happens in the corner of your eye!

This happening with Taurus is deep and makes the showing ten times better.

#18 got a lot of interest, thanks.

The title is North of Metro Airport and is painted on cast plaster. The form comes from a plastic take-out cover for food.

The area surrounding Metro Airport is of extreme interest to me the last six years. Quite a contrast can be seen there with some of the most biologically diverse eco-systems left in the Metro area and an intense interest from the highest levels inching closer to fulfilling the 30 year old Ed Mcnamara Plan.

The plan is to turn the area ( and SE Michigan ) into the Inport / Export hub of North America. To make this happen there are casinos, racetrack, active-living communities, condos, golfcourses, aero-space industries, a technological park and many office space rentals on their way.

The morning I took off to paint what ended up as #18, NPR was fixated on the story about Cheney shooting his lawyer the evening before. As I was sitting painting this field, bird hunters came out of vast golden brown space. The hunter's yips and dogs scaring up pheasent and grouse..

It is so exciting when the personal art, world events and the future's ambiguity all become interwoven.

I wonder how "must" in my first comment became "much" on its own. Or how other comments in past blogs hear have been manipulated and deleted without any "removed by blog facilitator" or such..

Or why anonymous comments are sought out by the "facilitator" by identifying computer ip addresses. Then the manipulation of talking behind the back and other terrible tactics are used in this complicated arts culture.
